1. Carbon Moulded via Morpheus

"Alpha is the first fin release of a much larger project called Morpheus. It is a moulded fin. It's a carbon-resin, air-infused material and it's 100% made in the USA from the material, all the way to the finished product. In order for us to develop Alpha and get it really where we wanted it to be in the line-up, we needed a new material. Futures Fins developed this compound-6 material.

 

 

 

2. Air Infused

In compound-6 is a moulded carbon, it's air-infused, and we worked with a bunch of US vendors to pull it off. We're the first ones in the world to make it, and we're the only ones that have it.

 

 

3. Thick Base, Thin (but sturdy) Tips

Compound-6 has allowed us to do a lot of things with the fin. We're able to thicken up the geometry in the base so that it's more sturdy, but also thin out the tips so it's more resilient and you get more of a performance feel like you would in other performance fins.

 

 

4. Improved Flow, Less Hum

The flow-texture is actually a huge breakthrough in our development. The early stages of the design was really good, but we were also getting a tonne of fin hum, which was incredibly distracting for anybody surfing these.

When we found out that we could texture the back of this fin and reduce the noise that it's creating in your surfing experience, we were all super amped.

 

 

It took us many times behind a jet ski trying different flow [inaudible 00:01:36] until we found the right one. We knew we found the right one we were able to tow it behind the jet ski at close to 30 miles per hour without any hum.

 

 

As I've spent time in the world dealing with these shops and building relationships, our goal was never to make something that looked good, it was never to make something that was just eye candy.

As that's progressed it's not about making just another fin to sell.

It's about performance and it's an upgrade fin, so when I've been in different places and getting to talk about Alpha and hand them fins, I'm actually giving them something that I truly believe in, not just the fact that we make it here.

 

 

That's just the added bonus, and it's all about creating, developing, building, doing everything right here because now we can create perfection, whereas when you have somebody else making your products, you don't know.
