This is Happening Right Now: Big Surf Meets Manly Beach [Pictorial]
After a wild'n'wooly Sunday, Monday came clean. And this is Happening Right Now: Big Surf Meets Manly Beach.
After a phenomenal east coast low, affectionately referred to as a 'Black Nor'Easter' by the surfing brethren, ripped its way down the coast of Australia on Sunday, huge surf was assured for Monday morning.
But after the stormy maelstrom of a chaotic whitewater on Sunday, there was no telling what would be in store for conditions at the start of the week.
We awoke Monday to crisp offshore winds that had been blowing just long enough to tame the wild seas into a sense of order. This is a taste of the big surf at Manly Beach - the Queenscliff Bombie, Fairy Bower and Deadman's.
Taking the drop at the Queenscliff Bombie
No takers. Deadman's with an extra pinch of evil.
It looks so sweet and innocent...until you realise it's triple overhead. The Queenscliff Bombie in fine form today.
Frothy mess. There were some good waves at Fairy Bower. This is not one of them. Oh, and there was a shark doing laps through the lineup. Good times had by all.
Drop of the day award goes to this man. Arms up!
Not the normal view from the amazing Splat Cafe in Queenscliff.
Deadman's broke all day. He worked so hard...yet no one wanted to play with him.
I think I'll just wait for the next one.
